Concrete as the finished surface

Mechanically polished concrete is created by grinding and polishing the slab to refine its surface. The appearance is influenced by the concrete and the degree of aggregate exposure, making the existing material a central design consideration.

It is a flooring direction to discuss when you want to retain the character of concrete within a home or commercial interior. Think about how its colour and variation will sit alongside walls, timber, cabinetry and other finishes.

Compare polishing with other concrete finishes

Polished concrete and grind and seal are different approaches. Grind and seal relies on an applied surface sealer after grinding; mechanical polishing uses a sequence of grinding and polishing stages to refine the concrete.

A photograph alone may not explain which process was used. Describe the appearance and practical needs of your space, then discuss the available approach rather than choosing only by a finish name or an example image.

New builds and existing floors

If you are planning a new build, raise the intended concrete finish early in the project. For an existing floor, explain its condition and any previous coverings or coatings. Both situations benefit from setting expectations around the actual slab.

Include the approximate area, location, property use and preferred dates in your enquiry. The floor condition, access and scope need to be considered before timing or the final appearance can be confirmed. Enquiries are welcome across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.

PROJECT QUESTIONS

Planning your floor.

Can an existing concrete floor be considered?

Yes. Describe the floor, any previous coverings and visible damage. The suitability and possible appearance need to be discussed for that particular slab.

When should I discuss polishing for a new build?

Raise the intended floor finish early so it can be considered alongside the concrete and other building works. Include the project stage when you enquire.
